Choosing A Mental Health Counselor

"The principle aim of psychotherapy is not to transport the patient to an impossible state of happiness, but to help him acquire steadfastness and philosophic patience in the face of suffering. Life demands for its completion and fulfillment a balance between joy and sorrow." ~C. G. Jung

When you're walking across a frozen river and the ice is breaking all around you, you need stability to get to the other side. That's what I offer. I won't make the promise that life will be without sorrow. As Jung suggests, life is only fully experienced through the balance of both sorrow and joy. My aim as your psychotherapist is to provide stability in the difficult transitions, to help you navigate your way across the river and find that balance that allows you to experience a fulfilling life.

I work with individuals, couples, adults and elders. I do not discriminate and pride myself on my ability to work with diverse groups of people. I work with my clients in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner, and am dedicated to helping you work through the difficulties in your life. My office is a safe, private and comfortable environment where you can relax and talk about your troubles feely without criticism or judgement.

Treatment Issues and Preferences
Treatment Issues: At Eranos Counseling, I offer a creative, compassionate, competent and Jungian-oriented approach to psychotherapy, EMDR and sandplay for a variety of human problems. Those problems can include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress resulting from a traumatic event like 9/11, exposure to results of natural disasters, or war. Relationships are wonderful, but can surface conflicts that require a therapist to help you understand and resolve. Sometimes those conflicts can include physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse. Addictions to food, sex, gambling, drugs and alcohol are difficult to admit and troublesome to treat, but are not impossible to resolve with effort, commitment and appropriate support. Work-related problems are frequent sources of stress and discontent in peoples' lives, but these issues, too, can be worked through successfully in therapy. Job performance and satisfaction are enhanced when issues of hostility, envy, competition and fear are worked through in therapy.
Treatment preferences: counseling/psychotherapy, dream work, active imagination, EMDR, sandplay

Orientation: Jungian, modern psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral

Modality: Individuals, Couples, Family and Group Psychotherapy

My fees are reasonable and customary. I accept VISA, Master Card, Discover credit cards, cash and checks. Insurance coverage is quite complicated nowadays. If you are considering using your insurance, contact your insurance carrier, or Human Resource department to determine if your plan provides coverage for "out-of-network" providers. I am a Certified TRICARE Mental Health Counselor.  As a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania, I  am authorized to provide mental health services.

Hours: By appointment only. Monday thru Thursday 9:00AM to 7:00PM. If you are unable to keep your appointment, 24 hr. advance notice of cancellation is required.

"Analysis is only a means for removing the stones from the path of development, and not a method...of putting things into the patient that were not there before." C.G.Jung

I regard the information you share with me with the greatest respect, so I want us to be as clear as possible about how it will be handled. The privacy and confidentiality of our conversations, and my records, is a privilege of yours and is protected by state law and my profession's ethical principles. However, there are two circumstances in which I cannot guarantee confidentially, legally and/or ethically: When I believe you intend to harm yourself or another person and when I believe a child or elder person has been or will be abused or neglected. In rare circumstances, Professional Counselors can be ordered by a judge to release information. Otherwise, I will not tell anyone anything about your treatment, diagnosis, history, or even that you are a client, without your full knowledge and a signed Release of Information Form.

Benefits of Treatment

Through our work together you will be investing in the quality of your life for the future. That is a treasure nothing can take away from you, not even a downturn in the economy. Throughout the therapy process, you will able to identify the problems and issues affecting your life, and learn alternative coping mechanisms and life skills that will help you on your way to healing and wholeness. Most current problems began sometime in the past. Exploring your past history is part of the process of healing. This is done slowly, carefully and compassionately.
